Do ABIA members recycle batteries?

ABIA are very proud of what has been achieved in used lead acid batteries (ULAB) recycling so please read the article on the home page for many facts and figures.

ABIA Code of Practice states that Members should encourage and make available recycling points for consumers. WH&S rules apply to ULAB much the same as with new batteries in their warehouse.

Historically there has always been a need to seperate batteries containing acid from Nickel Cadmium and similar batteries. These can only be recycled by a dedicated battery recycler.

However the latest danger is Lithium batteries that have been designed to replace lead acid batteries as far as size and connections. Again these must be segregated from ULAB. Please visit the Battery Stewardship Council website (bsc.org.au) for information on recycling of Lithium and other non-ULAB batteries.
